Philosophy on Education

Technology is an exciting and stimulating experience, one that can change a person’s outlook on life as well as the society around them. It allows for students to discover as well as helping to formulate opinions on the world around them. Through the process of examining events in Technology students will develop deeper thinking and a more critical mind for the events which occur around them in everyday life.  Technology not only helps students minds think deeper and question critically but it also helps in several other aspects of education as well. Technology is highly integrated in many of the subjects which students study in school, whether it is a foreign language, or art.  Technology is deeply involved in all subject matters. As students begin to develop and have the ability to question and realize the world around them they develop the necessary skills for a successful education. Technology can strengthen a student’s abilities to think more crucially when examining the world around them.

Secondly Technology enriches the educational lives of the students in the classroom. The students will gain the skills needed for them to be both successful from an educational standpoint as well as from a societal point of view. Student’s minds and their critical thinking skills can be challenged and debated within the classroom. Technology is an important part of all educational programs and curriculum; this will not change and the importance for students to understand the past and look critically on the future is an extremely important part to a student’s education

Effective teaching can be done in several different ways.  I feel that incorporating class discussions which actively involve students in the learning is one of the most powerful ways of teaching a classroom.  Students in my opinion learn by doing, so I feel as though allowing several different ways for assessment to occur, as well as allowing students to expand their own learning by developing several different types of works.  I also believe in fair, straightforward evaluation.  I do not feel as though tricking students or not giving them a fair shake at getting good grades is a positive way to teach a classroom.

Lastly when dealing with learner differences it is important to keep in mind the many ways students learn in a classroom setting.  Not all students are built the same so it is important for myself as a teacher to present the information in a way that allows all students to process, think about and develop a deeper understanding of the knowledge in order for them to gain a greater understanding of the subject matter.

As a Technology teacher, my objective is to develop critical thinking, the questioning, exploration, as well as the understanding of the world around them. I feel as though all students have a vested interest in the study of Technology. The idea of examining the societies and cultures that developed over time, and pushed people forward to create progress is extremely important and I plan on passing the knowledge of these great cultures on to my students.
