TF-VII, Procedures, Policies, Planning, and Budgeting for Technology Environments
Educational technology facilitators promote the development and implementation of technology infrastructure, procedures, policies, plans, and budgets for PK-12 schools. Educational technology facilitators:
A. Use the school technology facilities and resources to implement classroom
instruction.Candidates:
1. Use plans to configure software/computer/technology systems and related peripherals in laboratory, classroom cluster, and other appropriate instructional arrangements.
Have spoken with IT and Vice Principal on how to add more computers to the computer lab. Researched what the future of technology is with teachers. Trying to decide between iPad and laptops/netbooks/chromebooks.
2. Use local mass storage devices and media to store and retrieve information and resources.
Use Google Drive to save information and collaborate with others.
3. discuss issues related to selecting, installing, and maintaining wide area networks (WAN) for school districts.
Networks are already installed at this school.
4. Model integration of software used in classroom and administrative settings including productivity tools, information access/telecommunications tools, multimedia/hypermedia tools, school management tools, evaluation/portfolio tools, and computer-based instruction.
Attended class on new software for the classroom management called PowerSchool. Researched and attended several different conferences. Researched what could be done for the school in the future especially when dealing with tablets vs. laptops.
5. Utilize methods of installation, maintenance, inventory, and management of software libraries.
Helped teachers with document camera software and how to use it. Showed teachers who to implement iPad's into the classroom setting. Developed websites for teachers to use in order to gain competency
6. use and apply strategies for troubleshooting and maintaining various hardware/software configurations found in school settings.
Helped teachers with internet access and how to set up speakers on their computers. I currently have one block of technology integration/support which I am consistently able to help teachers with any problems or questions which they might have.
7. Use network software packages to operate a computer network system.
Supported teachers in finding their documents and how to navigate the network by using their X/Drive. Teachers are able to ask about any kind of navigation at any time.
8. Work with technology support personnel to maximize the use of technology resources by administrators, teachers, and students to improve student learning.
Held conferences and workshops with administrators about using Evernote for evaluation. Trained administrators on how to effectively use the software to leverage results for themselves.
B. Follow procedures and guidelines used in planning and purchasing technology resources.
Candidates:
1. Identify instructional software to support and enhance the school curriculum and develop recommendations for purchase.
School purchased PowerSchool which allows teachers and other to manage the school more effectively. Helped research the software which was purchased and implemented by all with the district.
2. Discuss and apply guidelines for budget planning and management procedures related to educational computing and technology facilities and resources.
Able to discuss with administrators what the potential cost would be to continue purchasing technology in order to keep the iPad initiative alive and well.
3. Discuss and apply procedures related to troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of technology infrastructure
Supported teachers with troubleshooting their equipment during Technology Integration/Support block which is built into my own schedule.
4. Apply current information involving facilities planning issues and computer-related technologies.
Researched integration of a device lab. Looked into potentially getting a Mac Lab which would benefit all within the school.
5. suggest policies and procedures concerning staging, scheduling, and security for managing computers/technology in a variety of school/laboratory/classroom settings.
Checked AUP changed and marked up AUP for students. Created iPad Acceptable Use Policy for all students who got an iPad.
6. use distance and online learning facilities.
Used collaboration tools to interact with students and teachers. Google Drive is built into our department which allows all teachers to effectively navigate and collaborate.
7. Describe and identify recommended specifications for purchasing technology systems in school settings.
Researched this information about purchasing devices for a shared device cart and Mac Lab
C. Participate in professional development opportunities related to the management of school facilities, technology resources, and purchases. Candidates:
1. Support technology support technology professional development at the building/school level utilizing adult learning theory.
Worked with IT to help with technology support with the teachers. Spend one block a day doing Technology Support/Integration by helping teachers effectively implement the technology into their own classrooms.
